Valree Short, age 74, got to meet Jesus on Friday, February 16, 2018. She was a loving & an Amazing Daughter, Sister, Wife, Aunt; Cousin; Mom, Grandma, & Great-Grandma. She was the daughter of David T. & Joyce Floyd; Sister of Dee & Charlotte; Wife of Lowell; Mom of Bobbie Gene, Billie Jo (Poopsie), Karee, Steve, Lowell (Sonny), & Tina; Grandma of Kayli, Aaron, Tyler, Makayla, Stevee, Savannah, & Sonni; Great-Grandma of Kolton, Kasen, & Kamden; Although our family is devastated by our sudden & unexpected loss, Val, Mom, Gran, Nan, Momma Short, & “Valeen” left many great memories for her family & friends (and even some strangers) to cherish. She dearly loved her family, and truly built her life around her kids, grandkids, & great-grandkids. She spent a lot of time with them all, and made each one feel very loved and special. She snuggled each one, loved, hugged, rubbed backs, cooked morning, noon, night, and in the middle of the night if they wanted it, went to the movies, & spoiled them all. She never met a stranger & always stopped to talk to & love on every baby she seen. She loved any reason to make a dinner, dish, or pie for someone. She even baked pies & cookies for her doctors, Pastors, neighbors, the local school teachers & Principal. She went grocery shopping so often, that she even made friends at “ALL” the local grocery stores, and began making pies for them too. We are not sure that Price Chopper will be able to keep their doors open now…she literally spent her bank account on food! Heaven truly gained one great cook. We believe there must be food in Heaven, because if not, she might have told Jesus to send her back! She was the most loving, caring, selfless, & giving person we’ve known. She was our greatest cheerleader and could also be our biggest critic… if we didn’t share her opinion, take her advice, or do it her way. She was a bus monitor by day, but she often reminded everyone that she was a Doctor, Lawyer, Counselor, Mechanic, Psychiatrist, Pharmacist, & News Reporter. She became “Momma Short” & “Grandma” to many other kids, including some of her bus riders over the last 22 years. Valree was born in Melbourne Arkansas, but moved to Independence as a young girl and has brought much of that “country flavor” into our city lives over the years. When the Funeral director asked what her favorite color was, someone hollered out “food”! Food & Children were her passion, so her family has decided to have food barrels available at the Church for non-perishable food items which will be delivered to help families in need and envelopes for monetary donations that will be donated to the local Ronald McDonald House. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 PM at East Side Baptist Church in Independence. Funeral Service will be Thursday at 11AM also at East Side Baptist Church Grave Site Service will be at Mount Washington Cemetery following the service.
