DOROTHY A. DAVIS Dorothy Alyeene Davis, a Platte Woods homemaker and former fashion illustrator, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Seasons Memory Care, in Kansas City, Mo., after a long illness. She was 85. Ms. Davis was born on June 25, 1933, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., the eldest of three daughters of Henry Clay and Callene (Moore) Hyatt Jr. Ms. Davis grew up in Kansas City, Mo., and graduated in 1952 from Westport High School. In 1956, she received a bachelor’s degree in fashion illustration from the Kansas City Art Institute. While attending art school, Ms. Davis began working as a sales clerk at Kline’s, a large department store in Kansas City; after graduation, she worked as an illustrator for a children’s clothing manufacturer. Ms. Davis married Donald Lee Davis, also a student at the art institute, in 1956. They had three children together. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979. A member of the Platte Woods United Methodist Church since 1968, Ms. Davis also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution (White Alloe Chapter), the Platte County Federated Republican Women’s club and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered as a poll worker at every election in her area for decades. Ms. Davis is survived by two sisters, Deloris Graham, of Carrollton, Mo., and Kathlyn Fares, of Hawk Point, Mo.; three children, daughter Pamela Lee Lyon (and husband, James), of Blue Springs, Mo., and sons Clay Richard Davis (and wife, Julie), of Oroville, Calif., and Brian Winston Davis (and wife, Connie), of Blue Springs, Mo.; seven grandchildren, David Kauer, Donald Kauer, Kelly Davis, Katherine "Katie" Davis, Leandra Lyon, Margaret "Maggie" Davis, and Roland Davis; and four great-grandchildren, Katherine Kauer, Jacob Kauer, Natalie Kauer and Anastasia Kauer. She was preceded in death by her parents. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, at Platte Woods United Methodist Church, 7310 NW Prairie View Road, Platte Woods, Mo. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
